Accountant
A dedicated accountant for management accounts, reconciliations and reporting — under your CPA's direction, in your ledger, from $14/hr + GST.
What an Accountant does
Not every finance task needs a partner-level signature. A dedicated accountant handles the recurring management-accounting load — reconciliations, journals, month-end and reporting prep — so your senior finance people and external accountant stay on strategy and sign-off.
Every StaffingSolutions.io accountant is recruited, hired and managed by us — reference-checked for your tools, working your business hours, and backed by our zero-risk promise: no placement fee, money-back first week, and a free replacement if the fit isn't right.
What they handle
- Management accounts — month-end close and reporting prep.
- Reconciliations — bank, ledger and intercompany.
- Journals & accruals — accurate, documented entries.
- AP/AR oversight — keeping subledgers clean.
- Reporting packs — management and board-ready.
- Year-end — file prep for your accountant.
A week in the role
Sits inside an Australian practice or a business finance team doing the preparation work partners and financial controllers never get to: closing the month, building workpaper files, reconciling the balance sheet and drafting returns to review-ready state. A registered tax agent reviews, signs and lodges everything that leaves the office.
Posts accruals, prepayments, depreciation from the fixed asset register and any foreign exchange revaluation, then rolls the balance sheet reconciliation file forward so every control account agrees to a supporting schedule before the controller signs the close off.
Builds the file in Xero Workpapers or MYOB AE: trial balance mapped, lead schedules against each balance, source documents attached and an open query list for the client, so the tax agent opens a complete file rather than a shoebox.
Reconciles the GST control accounts to the activity statement worksheet, reviews tax rate coding on capital purchases, insurance and government charges, and documents the variance notes. The registered BAS or tax agent reviews the figures and lodges.
Adds acquisitions with the invoice and finance documents attached, processes disposals with profit or loss on sale calculated, applies the client's effective life and pooling policy, and agrees the register back to the asset and accumulated depreciation accounts.
Prepares the income tax return in Xero Tax or MYOB AE Tax from the finalised accounts, reconciles the return back to the financial statements and flags anything needing a judgement call. The registered tax agent reviews, signs and lodges.
Maintains the loan agreement schedule, calculates the minimum yearly repayment using the ATO benchmark interest rate, tracks repayments and unpaid present entitlements across related entities, and puts the working in front of the accountant who decides the treatment.
Calculates distributable income and the streaming of franked dividends and capital gains against the trust deed clauses, then drafts the resolution and minutes ahead of 30 June for the accountant to review and the trustee to sign.
Runs the job list in Xero Practice Manager or Karbon: allocates time, moves jobs through review states, files correspondence in FYI Docs against the right client group, and reports which jobs are sitting waiting on a partner.
Collects logbooks, novated lease and car cost data, calculates car fringe benefits under both the statutory and operating cost methods, tracks employee contributions and entertainment records, and hands the draft return and workings to the tax agent.
Processes annual review statements, officeholder and share structure changes and registered office updates in CAS 360, prepares the solvency resolution and keeps the company register current, ready for the registered ASIC agent to lodge the forms.
Builds the monthly pack out of Xero: profit and loss against budget split by tracking category, balance sheet movement, aged payables and receivables, and short written notes explaining what moved since last month and why.
Reconciles intercompany loan accounts both ways so they eliminate on consolidation, clears Stripe, Square and Shopify settlement accounts down to nil, and chases the unidentified deposits sitting in suspense before the accounts go to review.
